Daily Devotional - ' Staying in Your Place' - Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Staying in Your Place [Saturday 28 November, 2015]

“And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”-Genesis 2:18

A whole lot of women, especially when they get to a certain age bracket, strongly desire to be married without considering and/or really finding out what they may be getting into. They neither know their role, nor seek to find out how to perform better. All they wish is marriage, whether they perform well in it or not. Maybe the joy of the wedding ceremony overwhelms their need to seek knowledge on how to make the marriage work. Regardless, the truth is: A woman’s role in the home as well as the man’s, has been outlined in Scriptures.

The issue is that most people find their role too hard to play, or rather, feel cheated doing it. A wife has been designed as a help-meet to her husband. This has nothing to do with “superiority” or “inferiority.” God created the woman for the purpose of surrounding her husband with aid and assistance. That is, assisting the man to put in place those things that might be missing in his life. God has placed you to be the spiritual, emotional and physical support he requires.

Your contribution towards his life should be positive. If the vices he had before you both got married keep increasing rather than decreasing after marriage, and if his life remains at the same spot, then you are not carrying out your own responsibilities. You are to bring about positive changes, and the difference in his life after getting married to you should be glaring for all to see.

It is your responsibility to help him attain the great heights God has prepared for him. Therefore, be a helper and not a destroyer, an asset not a liability, a blessing not a burden and a soothing balm, not a thorn in his flesh. This is not to say you do not have “your own life” as a woman outside your husband’s, but that life you seek would have more colour and honour if you diligently and delightedly perform your wifely role. Today, ask God for grace to constantly surround your husband with the right aid and assistance.

Remain Blessed!
