Studying from Jer.2:5-13, I observe God asking for the reason why man
have forsaken the true God and gone after idols.
The chapter describes
most of the scene we see today in our World, corruption and idolatry
everywhere.
Men have forsaken God because of idols of money, fame,
popularity and so in.
In a part of the chapter, God was asking his
people to observe other nations that follows after their dead gods yet
are still so loyal and committed to their dead gods; only Christians
that serve the leaving God leaves their God for a hopeless and dead
god which will not profit them.
Finally, God summarized the offence of man into two; firstly, they
have forsaken the fountain of living water.
Secondly,. The have made
for themselves cisterns that can hold no water.
I summarise everything as these; Firstly, Man as a creature of God is
incurably religious, he must either serve God or have a substitute.
A man whose heart is far from God will find other things to occupy his
heart (Solomon is a good example, 1King.3:3; when he loved the Lord,
he walked in the statutes of God. Later on in 1Kings 11:1; when he
forsook the love for God, another kind of love took over his heart.).
The spirit of man abhors a vacuum and must have someone or something
in which to believe.
Either man will worship God, or he will embrace
false beliefs.
Secondly, man becomes like the god he worships. Man
grows and develops into the very image of the true God when he follows
Him, or man is shaped into the shape of the idol which replaces God in
his life.
As children of the most high, let us therefore focus our all on God,
seek God with all of our strength because the grace is available.
The
moment we abuse this grace and relegate God to a sunday-sunday affair,
we allow something else take over our heart.
I believe somebody is
re-making up his/her mind to serve God better.
IT INDEED PAYS TO SERVE GOD!
God bless you all.
Peter O. Musa.
