LIVING TOGETHER AS
FAMILY
Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-7
Memorize 1 John 4:7-8

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for
love comes from God. Everyone who loves has
been born of God and knows God. Whoever
does not love does not know God, because
God is love.”
Facing Reality
God’s idea is that the world will be a place
where His children will live together in
perfect happiness and eternal bliss.

Knowing
that the world is huge, He did not create all
the families of the earth at once.

He created
one family and expected that family to live
in perfect harmony and out of them the
families will be duplicated across the entire
earth. There is only one characteristic that
will make families thrive – love.

Love is the most misunderstood word in the
entire world. God has dealt in several ways
with humanity to demonstrate what love
is but humanity is still struggling to get the
message. Someone says, “I love my wife” at
another time he says, “I love my car” and
then he says, “I love my dog”.

Sometimes
it is difficult to know the difference. Read
today’s passage again, slowly and meditate
on the phrases one at a time. You will see
love in action.

These statements correct the
erroneous notion that love is a feeling; love
is action. When God so loved the world, He
gave – He did something that all can see.
What are you doing to the members of your
family to show them you love them?

Some fathers see providing food, clothing and
school fees as a sign of their love.

These are good, but there is ample evidence of fathers
who are doing all that but their children
cannot say they are loved by their father.

Remember before the Apostle Paul wrote
the verses in today’s passage, he said giving
your goods to the poor does not necessarily
constitute love.

Pause and reflect on how you have related
to the members of your family in the past
week, using the definitions of love given in
these verses and see what God wants you
to know about living together as a family.
